David Blake received his Ph.D. in Music History and Theory from Stony Brook University in 2014. He is currently writing a monograph on popular music making at college campuses from the 1850s to the 2010s, a project for which he has received research grants from the American Antiquarian Society, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Library and Archives, and the University of Colorado American Music Center. Dr. Blake has published articles on a variety of subjects - the 1960s collegiate folk revival, timbre in indie rock, popular music pedagogy, and the impact of 21st-century changes to university education on musicology - in Journal of Musicology, Music Theory Online, and Journal of Music History Pedagogy. He also has presented at major conferences, including the annual meetings of the American Musicological Society, Society for Music Theory, Society for Ethnomusicology, and the International Association for the Study of Popular Music-US and Canada chapters. Prior to teaching at SUNY-Potsdam, Dr. Blake has taught at the University of Akron and Stony Brook University.
