The importance of public school music education has been a focus of Mr. Faunce's career from the beginning. He served as the New York State School Music Association Zone 5 regional representative for two six-year terms (1997-2003, 2009-2015). This experience enabled him to promote the efforts of the many fine music educators and music students that the North Country had to offer. He also served as the NYS All-State choral chair in 2006 & 2007, and continues to be an All-State vocal adjudicator, a piano adjudicator, and a choral major organization adjudicator. Mr. Faunce currently serves NYSSMA as their 2nd Vice-President where he is responsible for all student activities including solo and ensemble festivals, major organization festivals and the student portion of the annual NYSSMA conference featuring eight All-State honor ensembles.

Russ Faunce has both undergraduate and graduate degrees from the Crane School of Music with additional public school administrative course work from St. Lawrence University. He taught high school choral music for 34 years in the Watertown City School District and served as the music department administrator for the bulk of those years. During his tenure in the Watertown schools, Mr. Faunce developed an extensive background in choral music, music theory, class piano and musical theater. His choirs regularly received gold with distinction ratings at NYS festivals and his work included honor performances in California, Florida, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York City.
