Dr. Maxwell Grube is an adjunct instructor at The Crane School of Music. A NY-based freelance bassoonist and educator, Grube is also the owner of Basso Vento Bassoon Reeds, which is an online company specializing in handcrafted bassoon reeds (www.bassovento.com). He serves as substitute 2nd bassoonist with Symphoria (formerly the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra) as well as second bassoonist of the Orchestra of Northern New York. He had the pleasure of performing with the Ensemble Signal orchestra and quintet during the 2017 Lincoln Center Festival series, Ornette Coleman: Tomorrow is the Question. Grube also served as acting principal bassoonist for the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes during the 2013-2014 season, and he has appeared with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra as substitute bassoonist on several occasions. He was awarded the Eastman Performer's Certificate in 2014 and the Eastman Teaching Assistant Prize in 2015. Grube holds degrees from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, Arizona State University, and the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with Dr. Susan Laib, Dr. Albie Micklich, and Mr. John Hunt, respectively.
