Dr. Collins teaches undergraduate courses in instrumental and general music methods as well as her online graduate music course in action research. She is director of the Campus-Community Band, a collaborative, inquiry based instrumental ensemble. She has served as the Crane music education liaison for early field experience at St. Mary's School in Canton, as well as the coordinator of the Center for Creative Instruction at SUNY Potsdam. Dr. Collins earned her Ph.D. in music from The Ohio State University (2007), the Master in the Art of Teaching (2002) from Marygrove College, and her Bachelor of Music Education (1978) from Indiana University, Bloomington.

Prior to teaching at the collegiate level, Dr. Collins accumulated 25 years teaching experience in the Diocese of Columbus (Ohio), where she has taught instrumental and general music in grades K-12, designed and coordinated the Diocesan-wide music events, supervised instrumental music teachers, and earned the Romana Hemmelgarn Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award (1995). She has published articles and/or presented clinics for the Ohio Music Educators Association, New York State School Music Association, National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the Suncoast Music Education Research Symposium, and the National Catholic Band Association (NCBA).

Her book, Messengers of Music: The Legacy of Julia E. Crane, Information Age Publishing (2011), shares the inspirational stories of graduates of the Crane School of Music paired with the innovative philosophy of the school's founder. Her digital book, Curious, Collaborative, Creativity: A Guide to Transforming Music Ensembles (2017, available from iTunes and Amazon) provides music ensemble directors with ways to infuse student-centered, project-based learning experiences into their instruction, while addressing all National Arts Standards. Dr. Collins is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Kappa Phi, NAfME, and NCBA. She has served as executive secretary and webmaster for The National Catholic Band Association and member of the NAfME Innovations Council.
